ABOUT

Cate Christiansen is a filmmaker based in Manhattan. She founded FUN PARTY LLC, an independent film production company.

As both a producer and a director, she is most interested in weirdos, the uncanny, magical realism, and oscillating between the objective and the subjective, in finding the balance between storytelling as escapism and using cinema as a tool for change.

Cate graduated Magna Cum Laude from New York University with a Bachelor of Arts from the Martin Scorsese Department of Cinema Studies and the Department French Literature, Thought, and Culture, with minors in Film Producing and Dance. At NYU, she began producing Tisch student productions extracurricularly, soon producing over a dozen short films. Cate has worked for Sundance & the Utah Film Center, Toddstreet Productions, Hangtime International Pictures, et al.

She has now led productions across the US and internationally, and she aspires to continue to create films in which on-location shooting underscores the ethos of the story. She strives to use film as a tool to illuminate the idiosyncrasies of the people, places, and stories in our world in order to promote compassion, advocate for social and climate change, encourage introspection, and create art.

As a creative producer, Cate works closely with directors to develop their stories and scripts, with extensive knowledge in film theory, history, & criticism, while also working to minimize costs. She is a skilled line producer, overseeing all logistic elements of production, whether it be overseas or with cast and crew numbering up to 125 persons at once. As a director, having a background in modern and post-modern dance, Cate is drawn to film as a study of movement, gesture, and semiotics. She approaches filmmaking like choreography, relishing in the creative process and collaboration. What she loves most of all is to be able to work and create art with her friends.
